What is Vanguard eCare?
Vanguard eCare is virtual online care with a Vanguard clinician. It’s an affordable, easy way for you to receive a diagnosis and treatment recommendations for common minor illnesses. Best of all, you can use it at anytime and anywhere in New Jersey.
How does Vanguard eCare work?
All you do is answer a few questions about your health symptoms using your computer, tablet or Smartphone and request a Vanguard eCare visit. Our clinicians will review your symptoms and recommend a treatment to you. You will receive a phone call within an hour to finalize our review, with a diagnosis, treatment recommendations and a prescription, if needed—all sent to you online.
How long does it take?
It only takes about 5–10 minutes to complete the questionnaire about your symptoms. The number of questions depends on your answers and symptoms and the answers needed for the doctor to accurately diagnose your condition. Once you complete and submit your questionnaire, you will receive your diagnosis and treatment recommendations from the doctor within an hour.
If your condition is not suitable for online diagnosis and treatment, you will be told immediately and will not be charged for your Vanguard eCare visit. You will then receive referral information for the care you need.
Who is eligible?
Vanguard eCare is available to all Vanguard Medical Group patients seen in any of our offices in the past three years. The patient must be located in New Jersey.
What conditions do we treat?
Vanguard eCare is highly effective at safely diagnosing and treating common minor medical concerns, such as:
- Athlete’s foot
- Bladder infection (UTI)
- Cold, cough or sore throat
- Cold sore, canker sore or fever blisters
- Diaper rash
- Eczema or dermatitis
- Flu symptoms and fever
- Jock itch
- Low back pain
- Minor burns
- Motion sickness
- Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
- Seasonal allergies
- Sinus infection
- Tinea (fungal skin infection)
- Yeast infection
Common female infections
- Female Bladder Infection (UTI): Pain, burning or the feeling of having to urinate more often. Available to females aged 18 to 65 years old.
- Vaginal Yeast Infection: Itchiness, burning, and redness with clumpy white discharge in vaginal area. Available to females aged 18 to 65 years old.
Eye, ear and mouth problems
- Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis): Rednessm irritation or drainage of the eyes. Available to patients aged 2 to 50 years old.
Respiratory infections and allergies
- Cold, Sinus Infection or Influenza (Flu): Stuffy or runny nose, cough, sore throat, headache, fever, muscle aches. Available to patients aged 6 to 65 years old.
Skin and nail problems
- Eczema or Dermatitis: Itchy rash of the skin with a red, swollen, scaly or crusty appearance. Available to patients aged 1 to 65 years old.
If an online diagnosis is not right for your symptoms, you will not be charged for your online Vanguard eCare visit. We will refer you to the care you need.
Who makes the diagnosis?
Once you have finished the online interview, a Vanguard Medical Group clinician will review your symptoms and develop a treatment plan unique to you. The clinician will prescribe medications, if needed, and send the prescription to the pharmacy of your choice.
When can I do a Vanguard eCare visit?
You may complete a visit at any time. Our clinicians will respond within one hour between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week.
Can I get a prescription?
Vanguard Medical Group eCare clinicians can prescribe medications if you are an existing Vanguard Medical Group patient who has been seen in the past three years and if your condition warrants a prescription. Vanguard eCare is not an online pharmacy. We treat minor health conditions and do not provide prescriptions for pain medications or narcotics. You are responsible for the cost of any prescriptions, over-the-counter treatments or follow-up visits you may need.
Why can’t everyone get a prescription?
Due to New Jersey law, Vanguard eCare clinicians may not prescribe medications to patients who do not have an established relationship with Vanguard Medical Group. To become an established patient, see the response to the question below. Once you are an established patient, you can receive prescriptions for future eCare visits.
How can I become an established patient so I can receive prescriptions?
To become a Vanguard patient, please schedule an appointment to be seen at one of our locations.
How much does an eCare visit cost?
Each Vanguard eCare visit is $45. You can pay with a credit card or your health savings account (HSA). You will be charged for this service only if we can safely diagnose your condition through the eCare visit. If not, you will be asked to schedule an in-office appointment with your local Vanguard provider.
Is a Vanguard eCare appointment covered by insurance?
Vanguard eCare is a self-pay service. Check with your insurance company to see whether Vanguard eCare is a covered service. If your insurance covers Vanguard eCare, you can submit your receipt to your insurance company following your visit. We cannot guarantee you will be reimbursed.
Can I use my medical flexible spending account (FSA)?
Vanguard eCare may be allowed through your medical flexible spending account program. Please check with your company for final approval. If you have a debit or credit card for your flexible account, you can use it to pay for the service or you can submit your receipt for reimbursement. Remember to always keep your receipt in case you need additional documentation for your company.
What if I am enrolled in Vanguard’s Direct Primary Care program?
Vanguard eCare is available to our Vanguard Medical Group Direct Primary Care enrollees free of charge. For a monthly subscription fee, the Direct Primary Care program provides comprehensive primary and preventive in-office health care to those without insurance. All of your personal information and data is encrypted and protected, so you can feel confident that your personal health information is secure and confidential.
Can I use Vanguard eCare instead of going to my family doctor?
Vanguard eCare does not replace the need for a primary care physician. We offer this service because in some cases, when you have a minor health problem, Vanguard eCare is a good option for you to receive convenient care.
