Dr. Peter Carrazzone Named 2026 New Jersey Family Physician of the Year
Trenton, NJ – The New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians (NJAFP) has named Dr. Peter Carrazzone of Vanguard Medical Group its 2026 New Jersey Family Physician of the Year, recognizing his extraordinary leadership, compassionate patient care, and longstanding contributions to the field of family medicine.
The prestigious statewide honor was presented at the NJAFP’s annual conference in Atlantic City on May 2 and is awarded annually to one physician who best exemplifies the ideals of family medicine through exceptional service to patients, communities, and the medical profession.
“The Family Physician of the Year is someone who inspires trust, leads with compassion, and elevates everyone around them — and Dr. Carrazzone embodies all of those qualities,” said Dr. Sally Mravcak, former NJAFP president and Chief Medical Officer for Vanguard Medical Group. “He is a mentor to young physicians, a respected leader among colleagues, and a deeply trusted advocate for his patients. His influence extends far beyond the walls of the exam room.”
A former president of the NJAFP, Dr. Carrazzone currently serves on the Vanguard Medical Group (VMG) Executive Committee and is a member of the VMG Board, while continuing to care for patients in family medicine. Throughout his career, he has combined clinical excellence with a strong commitment to education and physician mentorship.
Dr. Carrazzone holds a B.S. degree in engineering from the University of Michigan. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and completed his residency training at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. He has also taught at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, William Paterson University, and Seton Hall University.
As New Jersey’s Family Physician of the Year, Dr. Carrazzone will now serve as the NJAFP’s nominee for the National Family Physician of the Year award presented by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
