Physician guides patients toward healthier living
“Helping patients feel informed, involved, and confident in their healthcare journey
is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.”
For Akshitha Bramara Kolla, becoming a doctor was never a casual career choice — it was a calling shaped by purpose, curiosity, and a desire to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives. Though no one in her family worked in medicine, she was drawn to healthcare during high school after witnessing the important role physicians play in supporting quality of life.
Born in India, Akshitha was raised in the United States after her family relocated for her father’s job. She returned to India to pursue her medical education near her grandparents and extended family. There, she gained invaluable hands-on experience working in a rural hospital that served as the area’s primary healthcare facility. Treating a high volume of patients with diverse needs helped her build a strong clinical foundation while teaching her how to adapt quickly, communicate effectively, and approach healthcare through a broader cultural lens.
After earning her medical degree, Dr. Kolla returned to the United States, first working in California before eventually settling in New Jersey. She was drawn to Vanguard Medical Group because of its physician-led, patient-first philosophy — an approach that closely aligns with her own beliefs about healthcare.
She especially enjoys primary care because it allows her to treat the whole patient, connecting the dots between different aspects of health and wellness. Preventive care and lifestyle medicine are particular passions of hers. “It’s not just prescribing medication for chronic conditions,” she says. “It’s also important to talk about nutrition, exercise, stress management, and lifestyle choices, which can play a role in a patient’s health.” By empowering patients with knowledge and involving them in the decision-making process, she helps them become active participants in their own care.
Patients appreciate Dr. Kolla’s thoughtful, attentive approach and her willingness to take time answering questions and addressing concerns. Creating a comfortable environment where patients feel heard, respected, and informed is central to her philosophy of care.
Outside the office, Dr. Kolla describes herself as an “outdoor person” who enjoys camping, traveling, and exploring new places and cultures. Whether discovering a new destination or spending quiet time with family at home, she values experiences that foster connection, perspective, and balance.
