Kenneth Pierson Takes Patient Concerns Seriously
“Over half of what we do in family medicine is preventive care. We look down the road to see how we can take the steps now to protect our patients in the future.”
Kenneth Pierson thought he was interested in emergency medicine, until he started doing clinical rotations. “I was intrigued by family medicine,” he said. “Some people might think it’s the same thing over and over, but I found that every patient is unique with his or her own background and challenges. I truly enjoyed being able to learn about my patients, and then follow up with them in their care.”
After completing his training, Kenneth sought out a practice where he could build those patient relationships. “I chose Vanguard because of its patient-centered approach,” he said. “It is a practice that is run by doctors, rather than by insurance companies. I also found overwhelmingly positive reviews online from Vanguard patients, which tells me that the doctors here follow through on putting patients first.”
Kenneth is enjoying a loyal following from patients at Vanguard, and has been told that he is a good listener. “I take each patient seriously, because their concerns are serious to them,” he said. “Patients sometimes come in knowing what they want, such as an antibiotic, and I take the time to educate them on whether that treatment is right for them. I want to do what is in their best interest.” He also takes into account challenges that may lie ahead. “It might be a vaccination, a screening exam, or even a lifestyle change that could prevent something more serious down the road,” he said.
When he’s not working, Kenneth enjoys playing guitar. He performs with his father when he has a chance to go back home to Pennsylvania. Locally, he’s enjoying exploring new restaurants.
