Listening Helps Lisa Cohen Educate Her Patients about Better Health
“Every patient visit is an opportunity to listen and communicate opportunities for better health.”
Lisa Cohen joined Vanguard as a physician assistant in 2012. Since then, she has treated patients in both acute care and ongoing chronic disease management. Lisa enjoys the experience of treating multiple members of the same family, which she finds beneficial. “Getting to know a family intimately by treating more than one member (mom, dad, grandparents and kids) puts me in a better position to see patterns that may exist, and better understand and manage the personal health care of each patient.”
With each patient encounter, Lisa spends as much time as possible listening and understanding the patient’s concerns, as well as educating them about their disease state and how they can play a role in its treatment.
When asked why she went into health care, Lisa instantly replies, “Since as long as I can remember, I liked learning about science and I have always enjoyed helping people, so when I thought about my future and a career in health care – where I could combine both – it presented me with a great option.” In addition, Lisa has a family member with autism, so she has a special interest in seeing patients with special needs and disabilities.
In her spare time, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, doing hot yoga, hiking, playing the piano and traveling.
