“If a patient doesn’t leave our office with a thorough understanding of what’s going on with his or her health, then I haven’t done my job.”

Mr. Joseph Nachef knew the moment he walked in the door that he and Vanguard were a fit. “The mantra of ‘patient-centered medicine’ is how I was trained; finding a group that practiced in that manner was where I wanted to be,” he says.

What he enjoys most about primary care is that it’s one of the few specialties where providers can spend the time to get to know their patients. “People want a safe space where they can confide their concerns,” he says. “I try to spend the appropriate time with my patients so that I can get to know them. I work to build a trust, which is so important to improving patient experience and outcomes.”

Mr. Nachef spends a large percentage of his time educating and motivating his patients during visits. “Patients are smart and want to do the right thing,” he says. “It is my duty to ensure that they have the correct and most up-to-date recommendations, as well as the tools to live up to their potential.”

When he’s not caring for patients at Vanguard, he enjoys promoting the physician assistant profession through teaching at local universities and mentoring future PAs. He also enjoys working out and spending time with his family.

I had seen this PA before but he was maybe having an off day on this visit. He seemed more rushed and disengaged. The nurses and reception staff were more compassionate.

My primary care physician is Dr. Cerilo in his absence PA. Joseph was seen. His professionalism balanced well with his enthusiasm and knowledge.

Joseph was friendly and appeared competent, however, I felt the visit was very rushed! I also felt he was reluctant to get near me...I only had a sinus infection! Maybe in time he will become more "user friendly".
