Claire Bornstein Helps Patients Understand the Value of Good Health
“My patients are my extended family. I’ve had patients follow me from job to job because of the personal connection.”
Claire Bornstein has always loved science—and helping people. That combination made it ideal for her to pursue a career in healthcare. She found her niche as a physician assistant.
Throughout her career, Claire has worked in multiple healthcare settings, including a primary care family practice, an acute care hospital, and a primary/urgent care office. She also worked with adolescents in Brooklyn’s junior high schools, as part of her tenure with the NYC Department of Health. Through it all, her patients are her top priority.
“I’m very empathetic,” says Claire. “I don’t just ask about my patients’ problems and then send them on their way with a prescription or regimen. I spend the time to get to know them, and we build relationships. Maybe that’s why many of my patients have followed me to new practices.”
Claire helps guide her patients toward good health, including preventive care. “Ultimately, it’s their decision, but I spend the time to tell them why it’s important,” she says. “Some people are hesitant, such as when they’re going for their first colonoscopy, but I tell them what to expect, which does help.” Claire adds that it’s what she enjoys most about her job—helping them maintain a healthy lifestyle. “It’s especially rewarding as I follow patients over the years,” she says. “I feel as if I’m making a difference in their lives.”
When she’s not working, Claire enjoys cooking, gardening, spending time with family, and volunteering in the community.
