Ceyon Drakes-Chester Helps Patients at Home

I like helping patients get to a better state of health by giving them the tools to get there.”

Ceyon Drakes-Chester chose nursing because she wanted to help people. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rutgers University College of Nursing, and is currently studying for her doctorate.

Ceyon works with patients in Vanguard’s Primary Care at Home program. “I enjoy seeing patients in the comfort of their own homes,” she says. “It removes the stress of trying to get out to the doctor’s office when it’s difficult to do so.” Ceyon diagnoses and treats a variety of conditions at home, from chronic illnesses like diabetes, heart disease and COPD to acute conditions such as urinary tract infections. She brings with her a strong background in cardiology, which helps her monitor heart disease. She also manages patients with dementia, working with their families to keep them safe and comfortable.

“Patient education is important, and I talk a lot about preventive care,” she says. “Just being able to see my patients doing well is a big motivation for me.”

When she’s not working, Ceyon enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
