Vanguard Medical Group Staff Honored by New Jersey Business Community

FAIRFIELD, NJ – June 6, 2018 – Vanguard Medical Group, a multisite primary care practice focusing on care for all ages in Northern and Central New Jersey, is celebrating the achievements of four of its staff members, who recently were honored by various groups within the business community and in higher education.

Arnold Pallay, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., director of practice development of Vanguard Medical Group, was named Business Person of the Year by the Montville Chamber of Commerce. Thomas McCarrick, M.D., M.B.I., chief medical officer of Vanguard Medical Group, was named a 2018 Leader in Healthcare in NJBIZ’s Vanguard Series. Katherine Fowler, executive director of Vanguard Medical Group, was named one of the NJBIZ Best 50 Women in Business 2018. Christina Patten Bottiglierie, physician assistant at Vanguard’s North Haledon office, received the inaugural Rutgers PA Program Distinguished Preceptor Award from the Rutgers School of Health Professions.

The Montville Chamber Business Person of the Year award recognizes a business person who provides outstanding business leadership as well as service involvement in the community. Dr. Pallay was recognized for his widespread volunteer service to Montville. He has been a member of the Montville Board of Health since 2007 and regularly volunteers for health department cancer screenings and vaccine clinics. He has served as a police, fire and school physician throughout the region. He is medical director to many nursing facilities and has served as medical consultant to The Chelsea at Montville senior living community since its opening over 25 years ago. He also founded and serves as associate medical director of the Jacobs Levy Personalized Genomic Medicine Program at Atlantic Health System.

NJBIZ’s Vanguard Series profiles those who have been at the forefront of significant business breakthroughs in various industry sectors in the past year. NJBIZ recognized Dr. McCarrick for leading “the effort to make Vanguard the first health care network to offer telehealth to all of its patients.” The publication noted that telehealth is a chief component of value-based care, and applauded Vanguard Medical Group for not only declaring that value-based care is the wave of the future but for fully implementing it.

NJBIZ’s The Best 50 Women in Business awards program honors New Jersey’s successful and influential women in business who have been making headlines in their field. Fowler was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the health care industry in New Jersey and to the local community. As executive director of Vanguard Medical Group, Fowler has taken the reins of an organization that is often cited as a health care leader by NJBIZ, with over 40 providers and nine practice sites. She has led an integration process that has improved operations, efficiency and, most importantly, the patient experience. In addition to her numerous professional contributions, Fowler has a long history of community service. She has served as president of the CARES Foundation and was recently honored with the Visionary Award at the 9th Annual Everyone CARES Gala. She has also, with her husband, Douglas Zehner, volunteered several times to perform service in Haiti.

The Rutgers PA Program Distinguished Preceptor Award honors preceptors who have demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and teaching. Bottiglierie has been a preceptor for the Rutgers Physician Assistant Program since her graduation in 2002. She also works with college students who are considering pursuing a physician assistant degree. The Rutgers Physician Assistant Program confers a Master of Science degree upon completion of 33 months of didactic and clinical education.

Vanguard Medical Group is a physician-led practice at the forefront of the population health movement, which prioritizes value over volume in order to deliver better health care at reduced costs.

The motivation to develop a larger regional primary care practice was the recognition that the health care system was rapidly changing in ways that did not support small or solo independent physician practices. The founding physicians of Vanguard believe that a strong culture of locally led practices, guided by a shared vision and governed by shared values, must be at the core of this new organization.

Many of the founding physicians have practiced for more than 20 years in their respective communities and are leaders in their local health care delivery systems. Vanguard physicians have been at the forefront of primary care in New Jersey, and our staff includes past presidents of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians, residency directors, family practice department chairs at our hospitals, and faculty at our New Jersey medical schools. Vanguard Medical Group accepts most major insurance plans.
