Dr. Eidus is a family physician and had been in solo private practice in Cranford, NJ since 2002, prior to merging with two other practices to create Vanguard Medical Group. Dr. Eidus is President of Vanguard Medical Group and is a principal in Vanguard Health Solutions which assists practices in transformation to patient centered care. His practice, Cranford Family Practice was one of 35 practices which participated in the TransforMed national demonstration project. It has also received NCQA recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. He speaks frequently on the topics of practice transformation and the Patient-Centered Medical Home and is on a number of related advisory committees.
Dr. Eidus spent the first eleven years of his career in academic family medicine, including seven as Residency Director and Department Chair at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. He then spent eight years in managed care, serving as Medical Director of US Healthcare (New Jersey) and as Chief Medical Officer of ChoiceCare (Cincinnati, Ohio). Dr. Eidus then spent five years in the case management and disease management industries, the last four years of which he was CEO of Informed Health Decisions, an independent disease management company focusing on women's health. Prior to going into private practice, he was the Medical Director of Einstein Practice Plan in Philadelphia.
Dr. Eidus has had a long-standing interest in quality and outcomes and has served for 14 years with the National Committee on Quality Assurance, including 10 years on the Review Oversight Committee. He is currently the Chairman of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians and a participant in the EnquireNet national ambulatory care research network. Dr. Eidus is also on the AAFP Commission on Practice and Quality, and he represents New Jersey in numerous activities to develop a primary care regional extension centers and foster patient centered care.
Dr. Eidus received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University, graduated from UMDNJ- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and did his residency in Family Medicine at Overlook Hospital. He received an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
